October 29 – December 20 You are cordially invited for the opening on Saturday, October 29 at 4 P.M.
Conflux is where two or more streams float together to make a river. We are five artists from the artist run organisation Slipvillan in Sweden that let our art join both in our minds and here in Middelburg. How things are joined is what matters. When five smaller rivers merge into one big one, it roars forward with mighty power.
Conflux is a project by the artists Madeleine Aleman, Jannike Brantås, Rikard Fåhraeus, Laetitia Deschamps Fåhraeus and Masoud Shahsavari from the artists’ organization Slipvillan in Stockholm. They also work together in gallery Studio44 Sthlm.
The exhibition Conflux shows an intriguing look at their connection to waters, rivers, streams, canals and how they play a central role for humanity. This is a project that started at an old river in Iran, went on to Stockholm, also called “the Venice of the North” and now has arrived here in Middelburg with its canals and waterways. On display are paintings, sculptures, prints, video and an inviting performance at the opening. The exhibition is a confluence of the individual and the collective.
The theme of the river such as memories, both lost and found, experiences of going into the subconscious or through meditation or fantasies, actual life experiences of different kinds or into the water element itself. From the river-bed to how the joining itself is important The meandering ways lead us into many different individual or parallel riversSo now, in our first exhibition together, we can be seen as one river and as five. Merge, a confluence – a conflux.
